What We Need

Sports Equipment

We have recently started new activities which include sports such as badminton, football and fishing.  These have so far been very poplular (even when it's cold!) and are excellent for promoting health awareness, teamwork and relaxation.  We would be very grateful for donations of any equipment relating to these activities including:

 

  • Fishing gear
  • Badminton equipment
  • Football kit (shorts, tops)
  • Other Sportswear (this is always well appreciated as most of our guys and girls have no sportswear at all)
  • Trainers
  • Outdoor wear (waterproofs etc)

Christmas

We open on Christmas day and provide Christmas lunch for those who want it as well as presents.  This is usually a busy day and we rely on the help of volunteers to run it as well as donations of Christmas food items and presents.  Suitable items inlcude:

 

  • Christmas Meats
  • Other festive food
  • Christmas Puddings
  • Chocolate
  • Socks, underwear and clothing (NEW)
  • Toiletries

Please drop off items at the project (see above) or contact us if you wish to have them collected.  You can also make a financial donation towards Christmas if you prefer.   Cheques should be made out to 'Shekinah (Torbay)' and we can send you a Gift Aid form if you are a UK takpayer.

 

 

Bibles

 

We have had some requests from our service users for small bibles and crosses for them to carry.  If you have anything like this or are able to donate then please contact Dougie on 01803 214988. 

(We do not promote our Christian beliefs with the service users but they are aware of them and are often interested to discuss issues of faith as they are searching for help and for answers.) 

 

General

 

We are always in need of tea, coffee, milk and any other groceries you may wish to donate.

 

We also need hats, gloves, scarves and blankets or sleeping bags.  These are given out to rough sleepers who are waiting for a placement at the hostel or other accommodation.  Toiletries and disposable razors are also very useful to enable the rough sleepers to shower, freshen up and look after their appearance a bit.

 

Photography

 

We welcome any digital photography equipment, to be used as part of our photography course.  This is very popular with our service users, who can express themselves freely and also have a chance to use good equipment.  We also take pictures of people to encourage them to think about their appearance and remind them of how good they can look...

 

Finances

 

We are very grateful for any financial donations.  We have a number of supporters in our local community who are regular donors.  We also ask people to complete Gift Aid forms if they are taxpayers, to enable us to claim an extra 28p per pound as a registered charity.  Please contact us with your name and address to request a Standing Order and Gift Aid Form if you wish to make a monetary donation or become a regular supporter

 

Financial donations and grants are all used to cover our essential running costs.  We have a number of salaries, utility bills and other costs to meet each month.  It is important that we receive this support to enable us to continue as a service for people who are often excluded and rejected within society.  We offer a friendly welcome and try to meet basic immediate needs, as well as ongoing support and acceptance and encouragement to make changes and move on.  Our funding is always tight and therefore we are very careful with our finances and responsible with any donations you may give us.

 

Volunteering

 

We are always in need of helpful people to give their time.  Please contact us if you would be willing to serve hot drinks, wash up, clean, chat to people or anything else.

Please contact us on 01803 214988 or at project58torbay@googlemail.com if you wish to make any kind of donation or enquire about volunteering.  You can also drop off any donations between 9am and 4pm Monday to Friday at 4-8 Temperance Street, Torquay, TQ2 5PU (behind Macdonalds on Torquay Union Street).  We are sometimes able to collect items/ groceries if you are unable to drop them off, so do get in touch if you need a hand to transport your donation!
